Tulum

Image
Tulum is surrounded by cenotes, beaches, and tons of things to do. Though the beach is mostly made up of resorts there are some budget options too. Staying in town is cost effective but the strange setup of Tulum means the town centre is about 3km from the beach. There are also the ruins which look incredible with the backdrop of the sea though it can get busy and the entrance is more of a themepark than a centre of cultural importance. We stayed 4 nights here and barely scratched the surface.

Los Angeles to Tulum

The flight from Melbourne was made up of 14 uneventful hours. we flew with Virgin Australia who were excellent. The entertainment had a good selection (though I’d already seen most of it) but the best bit was the free sleeping mask and earplug that went straight in my bag ready for long bus trips through South America. Thanks Virgin! We landed in Los Angeles in good spirits and not feeling overly tired. Because we had booked our flights separately we had to come all the way out of the airport and go trhough check-in all again. We’d allowed 7 hours, this might seem crazy but when LAX is bad, it’s the worst. It’s definitely one of the most nonsensical airports. When it’s busy the airport handouts of little orange bits of paper called “express passes”. If they’d given one to me on this trip I would have put it in my bag to use as toilet paper, they definitely aren...

The next big trip

Well, well, well. Fancy seeing you here! Last time I updated this blog I was somewhere in India, and if you believe the blog I’ve been there for almost 4 years! Well, the blog was wrong, and a lot has happened since then. I made it back home after the trip (I still may do the final post as I still have them in draft, but we’ll see), I worked for another year and a half in London.  Spending all my money on alcohol and…. no actually, it was just alcohol. I lost my hair. I decided to make a break for it and moved to Australia, Melbourne to be specific. I lived and worked there for 2 and a half years, gained a great job, a great girlfriend, and got to see some of Australia. Then, towards the end of 2016 my girlfriend (Kate) was told she was being made redundant from her job (where we actually both worked, and had met 2 years earlier). Wheels started turning (the wheel of time, and cogs in my head), and plans were set in to motion. Before long we had decided that we’d take 7 mont...
