The trip that keeps on Gibbon?

Image
I caught a bus from Pai over to Chiang Khong on the Thai-Laos border. The 4-5 hour trip took 9 hours due to a broken down bus in the middle of nowhere, the upside was that there was a party going on in the middle of nowhere so we were welcomed in to a small village where there were lots of old people dancing. The group of us on the bus got into Chiang Khong at about midnight and were up at 7 to cross the border in to Laos. The location of the border is either side of the Mekong river, so we caught a boat across and collected our Laos visas. Crossing the Mekong to Laos On the Laos side of the border is the small town of Huay Xai which is the home of the Gibbon Experience Zip-Lining adventure. I managed to book on to a three day trek the next day and this was the result: The incredible view from the first tree house. My friend Roger disappearing in to the trees on a zip-line. It was always very misty in the morning until the scorching sun burnt its way thr...

The Life of Pai

Continuing north I headed to a small town called Pai, I stayed at a hostel called Spicy Pai which was essentially a couple of wooden huts in between some paddy fields. My bed was a full 3 meters from the ground and only accessible by a very steep ladder, definitely one of the coolest places I've stayed so far. We woke up before sun rise on the first day and headed up to view point to watch some mist get a bit brighter. Having breakfast before going white water rafting. Pete and Paul ready for action. This was exactly like the petrol fight scene in Zoolander. Pete just Chillin' Our guide called himself God - I don't think our insurance covers his actions. There was a spider in my helmet. Tiger fighting? ...or young love? Definitely young love... Our faces hurt after a cliff jump... Pai Canyon! Pete takes my camera off a cliff with him and...

The Changover

After a few days in Bangkok I was ready for a change of pace so I hopped on a Sleeper train and headed to Chiang Mai - Thailand's second biggest city after Bangkok and situated in the north of Thailand. Saying it's the second biggest city after Bangkok though is a slight misnomer - It's tiny compared to Bangkok. Chiang Mai is a great place to do lots of outdoor activities, so that's exactly what I did.... Getting sniffed at by a baby elephant. Enjoying a jungle trek Peter with wet feet. NATURE! COW! TARZAN! Crossing a bamboo bridge. BAG NATURE! BUTTERFLY NATURE! Enjoying a night out with my friends from the trek. Chang was the drink of choice, and a Changover was the result! Blind street performers. The Chiang Mai night market. Our new Aladdin pants from the night market. TIGER NATURE! Baby Tiger. Two year old Tiger. Hungry Tiger. The handmade guitar I bought from the...
