The trip that keeps on Gibbon?

I caught a bus from Pai over to Chiang Khong on the Thai-Laos border. The 4-5 hour trip took 9 hours due to a broken down bus in the middle of nowhere, the upside was that there was a party going on in the middle of nowhere so we were welcomed in to a small village where there were lots of old people dancing.

The group of us on the bus got into Chiang Khong at about midnight and were up at 7 to cross the border in to Laos. The location of the border is either side of the Mekong river, so we caught a boat across and collected our Laos visas.

Crossing the Mekong to Laos

On the Laos side of the border is the small town of Huay Xai which is the home of the Gibbon Experience Zip-Lining adventure. I managed to book on to a three day trek the next day and this was the result:

The incredible view from the first tree house.

My friend Roger disappearing in to the trees on a zip-line.

It was always very misty in the morning until the scorching sun burnt its way through around 9 o'clock.

Below the shower - where all that was between you and a 200ft drop was a couple of wooden slats!

Special Delivery by the guides...
A boiling kettle! There was no flame allowed in the tree house.

Me and Karen having some tea and biscuits.

The shower ...the view was better when it wasn't misty!

Going to the bathroom right next to a 200ft drop took some getting used to!
We didn't see any gibbons unfortunately, we did see some monkeys playing in the trees just below our tree house though!
